Born on March 20, 1950, in Lynchburg, Virginia, Claude was the son of the late Claude Irvin Martin Sr. and Molly Paris Goin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lewis Martin, and his nephew, Travis Rouse.
Claude enjoyed the outdoors and spent much of his time hunting, fishing, and boating. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and was especially fond of the family farm, where he found peace and comfort.
He is survived by his partner of 28 years, Sheryl Simmons; his daughters, Christina Campbell (Tony) and Marie Duncan (Jeremy Slatton); his siblings, Donnie Martin (Dorothy “Tadpole”), Jeffrey Martin (Missy), and Bernadette Hansen (Bobby Stewart); his grandchildren, Kristie Cummings and Russell Borders Jr.; his sister-in-law, Glenda Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at the family farm at a later date.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Claude’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to James River Hospice for their excellent care, especially his nurse, Cecelia, who went above and beyond to be there for him when she did not have to.
