Danny Preston Brooks

Born on April 9, 1946, in Lynchburg, Virginia, Danny was the son of the late Lloyd Younger Brooks and Clara Gallier Brooks. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Brenda Garrett Brooks; his second wife, Deborah Cyrus Doss Brooks; his son, Ray Brooks; and his brother, Roger Lee Brooks Sr.

Danny was a hardworking and devoted man who retired from Lynchburg Foundry after many years of dedicated service. Outside of work, he embraced life fully—he was an avid New York Yankees fan, loved fishing, and found joy in completing jigsaw puzzles. He especially cherished his trips to Myrtle Beach, where he made countless memories with family and friends.

Known for his warm personality, Danny never met a stranger. He had a big heart, a quick wit, and a remarkable ability to make others laugh, even in difficult times. A strong and resilient man, he endured profound personal losses throughout his life, including the passing of his son and both of his wives to lung cancer. Despite these hardships, he remained steadfast, continuing to care for his home, cut his grass, and live independently.

Danny was a proud member of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge, where he formed lasting friendships. Above all, his greatest achievements were his unwavering devotion to his family, his loyalty as a friend, and his tireless work ethic.

He is survived by his three daughters, Wendy Lee Brooks (Brian Burnett), Melissa Hess (Bear), and Kimberly Scruggs (Frederick); four grandchildren, Taylor Phillips (Blake), Austin Scruggs, Diana Carter, and Nicholas Scruggs; seven great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Stuart Garrett; and his sister-in-law, Dawn Beck.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Peter Green officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
