David enjoyed many years living in Rhinebeck NY with his wife, where he eventually retired as Head Librarian at Vassar College in NY before settling into a quiet life in Amherst.
Like his wife Virginia who predeceased him, David was an avid animal lover and selflessly rescued and cared for countless animals he happened upon that needed a home.
David also embraced a strong interest in history and genealogy, dedicating substantial time to researching, reading, and collecting within these fields. Through shared interest in these personal passions, David forged several solid relationships which he cherished and held close to heart.
He is predeceased by the light of his entire world, his wife Virginia; his parents, Frank S. and Margaret Paulus Sr.; his brother and sister-in-law, Frank S. and Nancy Paulus Jr.; and countless aunts, uncles and cousins.
He leaves behind nephew Frank S. Paulus III of Powhatan VA; niece Beth Ann Fazakas and husband George of Mechanicsville, VA; great-nieces Lauryn and Ariell Paulus and their children; great-nephews, Nicholas and Alexander Fazakas as well as his dear friends and his rescues.
Anyone wishing to honor his memory may consider a donation to The Humane Society of Amherst, VA.
