Douglas W. Bolling, Sr., 75, of Madison Heights passed away from this life to his home in Glory with the Lord on Tuesday, May 7, 2019. Doug had an eleven year battle with the dreadful Parkinson’s disease and twenty-eight years with Ischemic heart disease, both attributed to contact with Agent Orange while proudly serving in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Born September 25, 1943, son of the late Page W. Bolling (Ida) and Jane Ashley Bolling. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Charlene Peters Bolling, having shared a Blessed Marriage of 55 years, and his beloved, devoted and caring son, Douglas W. Bolling, Jr. and special daughter-in-law, Lorrie Bolling of Madison Heights. Also survived by his beloved brother, Joseph E. Bolling (Linda) of Colorado Springs, CO and sister Kimberly Brooks (Danny) of Rustburg; sister-cousin, Nancy Bolling Hudson (Rodney) who was by his side when he passed, and devoted cousin, Judith Stevens of Lakewood, CA; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Doug enjoyed a life time working in the home improvement field including manufacturing, installing and selling products. He was of the Baptist faith and followed the will of God. Doug was gifted with a generous kind spirit, contagious smile and love for everyone including furry animals and birds. He loved his Tom kitty who misses him. Doug had a passion for music and attended all Friday Cheers for 19 years.

The family appreciates and would like to thank his devoted caregivers including special niece, Frances Patton (Marty and son Ryan), in-laws, Jimmy and Judy Trent Peters, F.E. “Inkey” and Judy Tomlin Peters and many others. The family also wishes to thank the awesome and wonderful staff at Runk & Pratt Memory Center-Forest for the faithful care and service provided Doug during his stay and also the staff of Centra Hospice-Guggenheimer during his final days.

A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Terry Wornstaff of Oakdale Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the American Legion Post 16. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m., Friday, May 10, 2019, at Whitten Monelison Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, Doug would prefer you adopt a pet from the Amherst County Humane Society or make a donation for animal care, or donate to the Monelison Rescue Squad or Fire Department for their continued and dedicated service to our community.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the whole family. Doug was a kind man as is his whole family. I remember 30 years ago,he and Charlene had a chef they knew take some deermeat they had and make chili beans for them. They were delicious! I told them I had never had deer until then because my family had never been hunters even though we lived in the country. Doug Sr. gave me a bowl to take home,I never told my family what kind of meat was in there. Everyone thought it was delicious, ate every last bit. Their faces when I told them they had finally eaten deer meat was something that I and the Bolling family laughed about later. May God's grace comfort the family !

Doug has always been a sweet and caring Brother-in-love to me. We have many wonderful memories of all our times together and the fun we had!
One time Doug told me we were lost on the way to Williamsburg (maybe we weren't) but I loved seeing things we would not have seen had we taken a highway!!! Many times he did that to me and the memories I am left with will keep me smiling the rest of my life! I will keep them in my heart!!! Thanks for the Blessings Doug!!!
