Nécrologie de Effie Garrett Pollard
Effie Garrett Pollard, of Amherst, entered eternal life on Friday, December 1, 2017. Born on March 2, 1924, in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late Reuben Stark Garrett and Jessie Alverna Dickerson Garrett. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Henry T. Pollard; and four siblings, Harry Garrett, Lorena Garrett, Betty Jean Sligh, and Sally Ann Garrett. She leaves to cherish her memory sons, Henry B. Pollard and his wife, Becky, and Larry G. Pollard and his wife, Peggy; seven grandchildren, Amy P. Sandidge (Dwight), Christopher Pollard (Stephanie), Angela Pollard, Stacey P. Burford (Damon), Lauren P. Pearson (Griffin), Andrew Pollard, and Bryan Pollard; three great- grandchildren, Nicole Pollard, Thomas Pollard, and Brady Pollard; numerous nieces and nephews as well as extended family and friends. Effie is also survived by three siblings, Helen Ranson, Marie Harris (Jimmy Harris Sr.), and Iris Martin; and sister-in-law, Mary Garrett, all of Madison Heights. Although there is sadness in our hearts for our loss, we are thankful for God’s Grace and the countless blessings of a Christian mom and nana. Her sweet spirit and agape love touched many lives throughout her lifetime. She taught us all to love others regardless of the color of one’s skin or the fate of ones circumstances, never condemning but always encouraging. She was a faithful member of Amherst Baptist Church for over a half century, where she was a light to the preschoolers and their parents. In her last days, though, she had her membership transferred to her home church, Union Christian in Madison Heights, where her dad had given land and resources to help begin the ministry. A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, December 3, 2017, at 3 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Union Christian Pastor Jim Freeman officiating. Interment will follow at the Union Christian Church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2 until 3 p.m. at the Whitten Monelison Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to Union Christian Church, 160 Parsonage Rd., Madison Heights, VA 24572.
