Happy Veterans Day Grandpa. I love and miss you. 

Posted yesterday for Memorial Day but guess it didn't go through but wanted to tell you I love you and miss you and thought about you all day and I know that you are now at peace with Grandma and Mom. Love you always Grandpa.

Elmer was one awesome human being. He was my family hero. I really really respected him for his service to our country.I first met Elmer in November of 1985 through his Granddaughter Jennifer.To know someone with that much history is very very rare. He did more in his first half of his life then most will ever see in their entire lives. I am proud to have married his Granddaughter that he and his late wife Mary raised as their daughter. I have a piece of him with me and i am very honored.Rest in peace Elmer i will miss you.

For some time now, we knew yesterday would come. God gave Elmer 97 years and with those years he touched many lives. I'm thankful to have had called him Grandpa. Thankful for the love, laughter and smiles he brought to my life and my family's. I ask that you please pray for my grandmother, my family and all who loved Elmer.

As I sit here this morning there is a lot going through my mind. It's amazing what you think of after someone close to you passes. Grandpa was a strong and amazing man, a world war 2 vet, a loving man, kind, decent, respectful of everyone he met and knew, he loved life and he lived a full life with no complaints, a hard worker, even after retirement he kept on working part time. He loved everyone in his life, his family and his friends and they loved him just as much. He was a true hero in every way. He planted his garden wearing shorts, no shirt, shoes and a straw hat. I would look out the kitchen window at home and see him working away in the garden he planted below and above the clothes line in the backyard. Him and I planted a rose bush for granny out front one year just a few years before she died. When I was little he would save change in a Maxwell House coffee jar (big one) and when it was full he would take me to the store and tell me to buy what I wanted. I wanted a puppy one time and guess what I got it, He surprised me with it one evening when he got off work, her name was Penny. I remember her getting bit by a snake and he took her to the vet so I wouldn't lose my dog. At night I would be sleeping when he come home and he would tickle my feet and say "im home, night night i love you honey". After I got married and moved way out in the country he and granny would drive all that way to see me. When my kids were in school and they had grandparents day he would come and eat lunch with them as well as come and see them get on the school bus in the mornings. On weekends he would go see my mom and aunt Kay and spend time with them at their house. He even helped my husband track a deer one year. There are so many more memories that I could share. Heaven most definitely received an angel and I know that one day I will see him again. Until then I have memories of him and know that the special bond we had from my birth to now will never be broken or lost.

Hard to say much more than the many wonderful things that have already been said about Elmer Phillips. For so many years now, my family dreaded yesterday. I know I did. And yet, I also thought the day may never come. 97 years is such a long time and Elmer was so healthy for so long, it just seemed he may outlive us all. Unfortunately, that was not the case and Elmer passed away yesterday afternoon. 
You will not find a better man than Elmer Phillips. Elmer was a father, a grandfather, a great grandfather and a great great grandfather! He was a World War II Veteran. He was certainly more than I could have ever asked for as my grandfather. He and my grandmother, Carolyn North helped raise my brother and cousins and I. I have so many wonderful memories of him as a child, entertaining my family. He never missed a birthday or holiday. He scared us with creepy masks but would make up for it with a delicious snack. I had some of the most fun in my life with Elmer. 

Elmer was the most kind-hearted and genuine person. He was loving and caring and so much fun to be around. He had a quick wit about him, even at 97 years old he would have us laughing. And he was blessed with such a healthy life for such a long time. Elmer would cut the grass and shovel snow out of his driveway well into his 90's. The past nine months or so have not been as fortunate for Elmer however as his serious heart surgery in March and cancer made things difficult for him. I am thankful that he is no longer suffering, as Elmer was not truly enjoying his life the way he did for so long, these past few months. I am thankful for the long and healthy life he had before this year and the many wonderful memories and childhood that he helped give me. I have more respect for him than words can say. Elmer is exactly the man I hope to be in my life. A tremendous role model, who brought so much joy to so many people. You truly won't find a better man than Elmer. Please pray for my grandmother, family and the countless lives that Elmer touched over the years. Rest In Peace Elmer.

Im Sorry that this strong loving man has passed but he is in a far better placed he is at peace now a soldier of god watching over his family from heaven he was a strong man overcoming all odds until god called him home and sir i will take care and be good to Sarah lol (he always said i better) RIP you will be greatly missed by all

To my cousins and to Carolyn and her family, I am so sorry for your loss.

He was always " Uncle Boss" to me and my sister, Betty. I live in Michigan and he would say "I often think of you in that cold country"  His sister Elva, was my mother and he made the trip over the Mountains in Nov. 1993 for her funeral. The siblings were altogether for that. Lots of good memories.

sorry for your loss Jennifer Sharon Sarah Joeseph Christian I know you all loved your grandpa. Hope you can find comfort and knowing he is in no more pain and will be celebrating Christmas in heaven and rejoicing, I always loved seeing him out he was so kind and always said hello he will be missed by all.
