

Born March 24, 1920, in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Walter Lewis Burley and Eva Eunice Bradley Burley. She was also preceded in death by a son, Paul Lewis Miller, who passed away May 3, 1965; and her step-daughter, Patricia Getz, who passed away February 28, 1989.
Mrs. Getz was a graduate of Madison Heights High School, and went on to graduate from Virginia Commercial College. Early in her career she was employed by the Treasury Dept, and later went on to work for the City of Alexandria, at City Hall, where she retired after 27 years of service.
She was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, the Amherst Museum, a member of Amherst Women’s Rotary Club and Winton Country Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra K. Cavanaugh and husband William of Burke, VA, and G. Jane Houde and husband James, of Herndon, VA; step-daughter, Elma Chaney and husband Howard, of Chesapeake; five grandchildren, Kellie Albrite-Kelley, James Warren (JW) Houde, Keisha Lynn Johnson, Paul Wightman, and Tammy G. Teele; six great-grandchildren, Alan Lee Holden, David Ryan Holden, Erin Harley Kelley, Cassidy Grace Kelley, Keira Allison Kelley, and Killian Ryan Kelley, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends Friday, December 9, 2011, from 6-8:00 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2011, at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, in Amherst, by the Rev. Lisa A. Barbery. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Habitat for Humanity, of Amherst.
