

Born April 8th, 1924 in Madison Heights to the late Fitzhugh Lee Chumbley, Sr. and Lovie Dollinger Chumbley. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Loriene Freeman Chumbley, the couple affectionally known to all as "Nannie and Pa". His daughters Pattie C. Day (George) of Elon, Karen Jardine of Washington, PA; Grandchildren Mindy Day Takematsu (Mitch), Mallory D. Bidese (Nick), Alex Jardine, Emily E. Johnson (Jim), and Joshua Jardine; Great Grandson Brandt Daisen Takematsu; Three sisters Elizabeth C. Boynuk, Mary Preston C. Thaxton, and Gertrude C. Rucker all of Madison Heights; Brother In Law Walter L. Freeman (Elizabeth), and Clyde Proffitt; And many loved nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his twin sister Lovie C. Coleman, Son in Law James Jardine; and Brothers in Law Paul Viar, Ziya Boynuk, H.E. "Ed" Thaxton, George Coleman, and Robert "Red" Rucker.
Buddy attended Madison Heights High School. He proudly served in the Army under General Pattons 3rd Army during WWll for 3 years. He landed on Omaha Beach 2 weeks after the D-Day invasion. He served as a Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) Operator. Buddy was a recipient of a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. In 1949 he began working at Taylor Brothers Incorporated as a Production Coordinator of the Millshop. He had a unique talent for colonial woodwork design. Buddy enjoyed making beautiful handcrafted woodwork, cabinets, and furniture for his family, community, and church. A lover of music, he played a variety of string instruments, and was also a talented drawing artist. Summer gardening was also a favorite. He had a great sense of humor loved by all. Most of all his enjoyment was spending time with his wife and family. He was a devoted member of Madison Heights Christian Church all his life, where he served as a deacon and elder.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00PM on Wednesday December 21, 2016 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Rev George Harris and Rev Jack Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 12:30 prior to the service.
