Greg was a very pleasant and kind man. We talked several times about retirement and still working at Moore's. Moore's was blessed to have Greg for the past 20+ years. I loved that he was so involved in softball, watching and coaching and being involved in his daughter and grand-daughters games. Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. May the good lord give you peace and comfort today and all the days ahead. RIP Greg.

   class Sunday School teacher, always challenging us to be a witness for God. Greg was a mentor, providing encouragement, and willing

Dear family , 

I just want to send my condolences and to thank you for sharing him ! I played for Greg one summer and honestly that’s all it took for him to gain my trust as a coach ! I remember so vividly that first practice and getting ice cream as a team after. He pulled me to the side to tell me how good of a player I was and to be honest I was shocked. I didn’t even think he noticed me let alone be impressed by me . It was during the ice cream break that we truly connected! He never said much but his eye always told me how much he cared  ! He taught me so much in so little time but mainly he encouraged me to trust myself and to never give up ! He saw me and understood me like no coach had before . He was an amazing man to know and love ! Rest easy coach until we practice again 💕



Tony and I are saddened beyond measure to hear of Greg's passing! The countless hours, days and years we spent on a softball field with our girls, made for lasting memories! Even before softball, Tony had many fond memories from high school, It was quite evident of Greg's love of his family, sports and especially softball. 
Please know that you all are in our thoughts and prayers. May God hold you close in this great time of loss.

Greg was wonderful to work with.  His patience, intelligence and communication skills were tremendous strengths.  We've lost a great man.  Thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Greg will be greatly missed here at Moore's.  He not only was my mentor, but my friend as well.  Every time we got together we would talk about our love for God and our family's.  He truly is one of the greatest men I've ever known.

Dear Diane and family. Was saddened to hear of Greg's passing, but thankful for his reward and his life on earth.  My earliest memories of Greg were him being a youth sponsor way back when I was in the High School youth group at Sandy Bottom.  He was then and now, a encourager and steady servant.   I thank God for his life and impact on mine.

I am saddened at the loss of my friend Greg Newman.  He was a kind hearted and compassionate man of God.  He always inspired me to be more compassionate toward people. I have a lot of good memories with Greg, like that time I had tickets to a bluegrass concert in Appomattox and didn’t know who to ask, Greg went with me and said “I’ll drive.”  When I needed someone with a truck to help me haul a new furnace to my house, Greg said, “when and what time.”  He was always willing to help someone.  We always had a great and encouraging time going to the men’s conferences at Liberty, Greg usually arranged it or paid for lunch.  He was also a member of the “Billy Hunt Mens Quartet”  although we only sang together three times it was a lot of fun. I also always felt like like I had a little power in my corner when my daughters played Dixie Softball because I knew Greg Newman :) 
      What meant the most to me though, and speaks to what a trusted and dear friend he was, when my daughter moved back to Lynchburg I felt better as a Dad knowing that if she needed anything or anyone, Greg was there.

 Many good memories, I’ll miss seeing Greg when we visit for sure, but looking forward to seeing him again one day.  Rest Easy my friend.

Very sorry to hear of your loss. Greg was a great man. I loved the days we worked together and really enjoyed the days we had together coaching the girls. Greg learned me a lot about coaching. Rest in peace my friend. Prayers for all of the family 

Our love and prayers go out to all of Greg’s family. Over the next several weeks we will mourn his passing but forever we will celebrate the life he lived  and the man he was. He earned the respect of everyone he met. There was no denying the love he had for God, family , and community. Though his body will be laid to rest and his spirit has been called home, Greg’s work will continue on through all the people he touched. His story will be told for generations to come. I pray he knows how thankful we are for everything he’s done.

Served on the Amherst County Dixie Girls Softball Association board and coached against him. Greg volunteered tremendous amounts of his time to serve on the board, coach, work concessions and whatever it took.  Had the honor to inform him in person that he was elected to the Amherst County Sports Hall of Fame.  My condolences to his family.  He will be missed.
