Hazel Staton Tomlin Campbell, 91, of Madison Heights passed away Friday, June 7, 2019, at her son’s residence. She was the wife of her late first husband, Robert D. Tomlin and her late second husband, Chester C. Campbell. Born April 9, 1928, in Amherst County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph P. Staton and the late Nannie Tomlin Staton. Hazel was a retired private caregiver and a member of Sherlynd Baptist Church in Lyndhurst. She was an accomplished gardener and apple butter maker. In addition to her first and second husbands and her parents, Hazel was also preceded in death by a son, Robert B. Tomlin; a grandson, Christopher W. Tomlin; one sister, Ruth Bell; and four brothers, Van Staton, Melvin Staton, John D. Staton and Eddie Staton. Hazel is survived by her children, Judy Peters (Francis) of Elon, Joseph E. Tomlin (Melissa) of Monroe, David Tomlin of Madison Heights, Jackie Lipscomb of Madison Heights and Cleveland Campbell (Fern) of Charlottesville; daughter-in-law, Rena Tomlin of Amherst; two brothers, Tully Staton (Elizabeth) of Beechgrove and Bernard Staton (Kathy) of Amherst; eight grandchildren, Dallas Tomlin, Frances Patton, Beth Campbell, Robert Peters, Joseph Tomlin, Mike Tomlin, Deve Logwood and Thomas Lipscomb; seventeen great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be conducted 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. John Sullivan officiating. Interment will follow at Amherst Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of David Tomlin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gentle Shepherd Hospice, Emily Couric Cancer Center, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or your local Shriner’s. The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Dennis Hatter and family, Vickie Parsons, Joe and Ann Lowrey, Mark Viar and Delana for their loving care towards Hazel; and a special thank you to Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their wonderful care towards Hazel.
