Born in Amherst County, December 15, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Herman L. Patterson and Margaret Beard Patterson. She was retired from the Central Virginia Training Center and was a lifelong member of Madison Heights Baptist Church. She loved music and was an active member of the MHBC hand bell and chancel choirs. She was also a passionate follower of Bluegrass, supporting many events sponsored by the James River Bluegrass Association.
She enjoyed many years of fellowship, fun, and travel while nurturing lasting friendships through her decades long involvement with the Amherst County Department of Recreation senior programs
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Pat Patterson, Jr. and two sisters, Doris Bryant and Shirley Sandidge.
She is survived by three children, Ray Bennett “Benny” Brooks, Jr. and his wife Julie, Janice B. Youngs and her husband Andy, and Michael Lee Brooks and his wife Terri; seven grandchildren, Graham Brooks, Casey Brooks, Trent Brooks, Lauren Boyette, Drew Youngs, Christinia Sale and Courtney Cunningham; six great grandchildren; one sister, Geraldine Hensley and her husband Marvin and a special cousin, Patsy Leftwich.
A service celebrating her life and faith will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 12, 2021 at Madison Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Tim Madison and the Rev. Randy Bower officiating. Interment will follow in Amherst Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church.
