Born April 17, 1931 in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Edward Ludwell and Jessie Parks Davis. She is survived by her husband, Albert Edward Winfield, Jr.; her children, Albert Edward Winfield III and his wife, Katherine, Betsy Winfield Waller and her husband, Michael, and Virginia Winfield Berry and her husband, Fred. She also is survived by her three grandchildren, Jessie Winfield Martin, Laura Winfield Alexander and Michael Graham Winfield and five great-grandchildren.
Hazel was a teacher for nearly twenty years in the D.C. public school system. She continued her career as a case worker on Capitol Hill with Senator Sam Nunn. After retirement Hazel moved to Monroe to the Davis family farm, a place she loved and cherished.
Hazel was an active member of the Big Island Baptist church. She was involved with the Mission Committee, Food for Friends, Vacation Bible School, and the Pastor Search Committee.
Hazel loved spending time with family and friends and she will be truly missed by all who knew her. Thankfully, God granted Hazel her wishes and made sure she was surrounded by the mountains that brought her peace and her family that filled her with love when she passed.
A funeral service will be conducted at 4:00p.m., June 16th 2016 at Big Island Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service. Private interment will be at the Davis Family Cemetery in Amherst County.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Missions Committee of Big Island Baptist Church.
