
Henry Thompson Pollard, 89, of Amherst, entered eternal life on, Saturday, December 14, 2013, at his residence. Born May 12, 1924, in Lowesville, he was the son of the late Montgomery Dunlap Pollard and the late Lovie Mae Bowling Pollard. His spirit is carried on by his wife, Effie Garrett Pollard; his sons, Henry B. Pollard and his wife Becky and Larry G. Pollard and his wife Peggy; seven grandchildren, Amy Pollard, Christopher Pollard, Angela Pollard, Stacey Burford, Lauren Pollard, Andrew Pollard and Bryan Pollard; three great-grandchildren, Nicole Pollard, Thomas Pollard and Brady Pollard; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as, and extended family and friends. Henry was preceded in death by his brother, William Montgomery Pollard.
Henry was a veteran in the US Army during World War II, and was a proud American and loyal member of the Masonic Lodge in Amherst. He was an avid gardener and outdoorsman, and provided vegetables to anyone in Amherst County who needed or wanted them. Henry was also a faithful member of Amherst Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and in various other capacities. His greatest joy was his love for Jesus and his family.
A funeral service will be conducted, 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Dr. David Clay officiating. Masonic Rites will also be presented. Interment will follow at Union Christian Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends, one hour prior to the service from 2-3 p.m., at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Amherst Baptist Church Youth Ministry.
