Herman Bradley “John D” Staton, 83, of Madison Heights, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2018.
Born on August 18, 1935 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Joseph P. and Nannie T. Staton. John D retired from Old Dominion Box Company and after retirement went to work for Brockman Chevrolet. He loved to fish and coon hunt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Cathy Mays; grandson, Aleph “Luke” Mays, Jr.; brothers, Van Staton, Melvin Staton and Eddie Staton; and sister, Ruth Bell.
John D is survived by his daughter’s, Becky Johnson of Blue Ridge and Janet Perrow and husband Rick of Rustburg; his son, Herman Staton, Jr. and wife Sheila of Amherst; six grandchildren, Candace Kanode and husband Keith, Jarrett Hill, Melissa Lordahl, AJ Lordahl, Chrystal Turner and husband Paul, and Betty Gail Barbour; six great grandchildren; sister, Hazel Campbell; brothers, Tully Staton and wife Elizabeth and Bernard Staton and wife Kathy; ex-wife, Shirley Haymore; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, September 21, 2018 at Whitten Monelison Chapel, with Pastor Carroll Martin, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Allwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service starting at 1 pm and at other times at John D’s residence.
