She was born on September 23, 1931 in Appomattox County, daughter of the late William Edell and Irene Cyrus Martin. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, James Preston Wright, three brothers; Richard “Dick” H. Martin, Harold Martin, and Eugene Martin, one sister, Lucy Patterson.
Irene dedicated her life to her faith as a devoted member of Northminster Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Known for her meticulous attention to detail, she found joy in maintaining an immaculate home. Her passion for numbers and puzzles was evident in her love for problem-solving and intellectual challenges. Irene's memory will be treasured by loved ones, who remember her for the comfort she brought and the joy she found in every puzzle she solved.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Janice W. Butler and husband Clyde; a son, Timothy M. Wright and wife Brenda; a sister, Alice M. Johnson (Fred); two grandchildren, T. Marty Wright, Jr. (Franny) and Karen E. Butler (Michael Tucker) as well as a great grandchild, Emma Grace Wright.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 31, 2024 in the Mausoleum Chapel of Fort Hill Memorial Park with Rev. David Garrison officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
