James Raymond Johns

James Raymond Johns, 81, of Monroe, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at his residence. He was the loving husband of Diddy Marie Cash Johns for 55 years. Born in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Luther Dean Johns and Cammie Branham Johns. James served our country in the United States Marines. He worked in the apple orchards and also for John Stewart Walker Construction Company. James was an avid coon hunter and enjoyed going to dances with his wife. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Katelynn Marie Branham; brother, Grover Dean Johns; and two sisters, Lacy Hearl and Zelda Putt. In addition to his wife, Marie, James is survived by his children, David Raymond Johns and wife Angela, Rosa Marie Martin and husband Dennis, Jennie Rebecca Coles and husband Troy, Charlotte Marie Johns and fiancée, Gene Branham, and Lacy Beverage; three grandchildren, Anthony Raymond “AJ” Johns, James Dylan Coles and Melinda Sears and husband Eddie; seven step grandchildren; three great grandchildren, Kelly Price, Jacob Sears, and Hailey Sears; seven step great grandchildren; brother, Roy Dillard Johns; and numerous other family members and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 pm on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Whitten Monelison Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Whitten Monelison Chapel. Interment will follow at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 16. For those wishing to make memorial contributions, the family would like you to consider the American Heart Association.
