Born on January 21, 1940 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late James E. Stewart and Lucille W. Stewart. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Staton Stewart and two brothers, Robert A. Stewart and John Frances Stewart.
Jimmy loved spending time outdoors and was an avid fisherman and golfer. He also enjoyed spending time in his garden and watching baseball. Music was his passion and he loved singing, especially anything by Elvis Presley, who happened to be his favorite musician. His beautiful smile could always be counted on to light up a room.
He is survived by his children, Elizabeth “Beth” Stewart Cook (Ken), Vickie Essex (Clive), Cynthia Franklin; grandchildren, Grace, Steph, Kayla, Brooke (JC), Mike (Susan), Brent, Brandon (Felicia), Wendy (Dayton) and Wanda; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be conducted on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Whitten Monelison Chapel officiated by Pastor Tommy Bryant. Interment will immediately follow the service at Spring Hill Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post 16. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
