

John was born March 16, 1927 in Huddleston, Virginia to John and Emma Fuqua. He served in both the Navy and Army during WWII and was a member of the American Legion. John was a loving father, grandfather and husband, being married to "his girl", the former Lucy May Stinnett for fifty seven years. He worked as a truck driver for thirty six years and eighteen years with the General Service Administration (GSA) before retiring at the age of 70. John was an avid fisherman in his youth, loved camping and the beach. He was passionate about traveling, liked to see different places and meet new people. He was an active member of New Beginning Tabernacle in Madison Heights, Virginia. To John, his name, month and day of his birth represented his favorite bible verse John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have Everlasting Life."
John is survived by his wife, Lucy, daughter Donna Kay Fuqua of Madison Heights, Virginia, daughter Barbara Fuqua Loving of Winston Salem, North Carolina, son John Thomas Fuqua III and wife, Karyn of Amherst, Virginia and step-daughter Barbara H. Engledove of Evington, Virginia; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and other loving relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Emma, son Donald (Donnie) P. Fuqua, and his brother Douglas B. Fuqua.
A celebration of life service will be held 1:00 pm, Monday, January 9, 2017 at New Beginning Tabernacle, 1886 S. Coolwell Road, Madison Heights, VA 24572, Pastor Gary Moore will be officiating. Burial with military honors by American Legion Post 16 will follow at Briarwood Memorial Garden, Amherst, VA.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Whitten Monelison Chapel, Madison Heights, VA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Beginning Tabernacle.
