John Allen Love, 69, of Madison Heights, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017, at the UVA Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Susan Proffitt Love. Born on October 26, 1948, in Chase City, he was the son of the late Oscar Daniel Love and the late Dorothy Castle Love. John served our country in the United States Army and worked for Powell’s Trucking Company as a leasing manager. He was a member of Gracepointe Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee. John had a love for his family and friends and loved to be surrounded by them. He had a passion for motorcycles, cooking, and camping and anything that allowed him to be outdoors with those he loved. In addition to his father and mother, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Thelma P. Love; step-son, Brian Shell; two sisters, Ida Camilla Love and Kathleen Clark; and two brothers, Samuel Almond Love and Daniel Braxton Love. He is survived by his wife, Susan Love; daughter, Bonnie Jean Love; son, John Daniel Love and wife Kelly; step-children, Kate McConchie and husband, Justin and Dwayne Proffitt; four granddaughters, Madeleine Baker, Isabella Baker, Alysa Love, and Kyrian Love; sister, Ruth Love Dillion and husband, Glenn; brothers, Phillip Harold Love and wife, LeeAnn and Paul Castle Love and wife, Ellen; step-brothers, Leonard Love and wife, Dial and Keith Love and wife, Kim; step-sister, Jean Tharpe and husband, Monty; a numerous other family member and friends. A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2017, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Greg Tyree officiating. The family will receive friends following the service from 4 until 5:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 31, 2017, at Concord Baptist Church, 11650 Highway Forty-Seven, Chase City, VA.
