

Born June 10, 1941 in Appomattox County, he was a son of the late Charles M. and Ethel Viola Guill Carter and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert "Boots" Carter, Sr. and Charles Carter. Mr. Carter was retired from the Amherst County School System with twenty-three years of service, where he served as Principal of Amherst County High School for nineteen years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and also served during the Bay of Pigs Invasion in Cuba. Mr. Carter also served on the Appomattox Town Council.
Mr. Carter is survived by three sons, Brian K. Carter, Bradley S. Carter and his wife, Sabrina, and Brent E. Carter and his wife, April, all of Madison Heights; one brother, Frederick Carter of Appomattox; four sisters, Phyllis Burkey of Chester, Barbara Almond of South Carolina, Brenda McConville of Lynchburg, and Pam Moore of Appomattox; three grandchildren, Brittany Hogan and husband, Dustin, Taylor Carter, and Elizabeth Carter and his beloved and devoted friend, Deborah Berkley of Drakes Branch.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Ron Moore officiating. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post 104 will follow at the Liberty Cemetery in Appomattox.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the funeral home and other times at the home of Brad and Sabrina, 275 Eastview Drive, Madison Heights.
