Born on October 26, 1965, in Little Rock, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Larry Gene Phillips. Mike is survived by his loving wife, Robin Phillips; his two children, Savannah Sorrels, her husband Thomas, and Johnathan Phillips; his mother, Patsy Freeman Phillips; and one grandson, Theo Sorrels.
Mike was a loving husband, father, and papaw, devoted to the Lord Jesus Christ and the church. He was a talented musician and friend to many nation-wide. He was a man who served people in many capacities through his life with God’s grace including a traveling southern gospel singer, truck driver, youth pastor, worship leader, minister, constable, politician, and school bus driver. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and often did. He will be remembered for how he loved deeply, spoke freely, and trusted God in all things.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Monroe Church of God in Monroe, Virginia from 11:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. A Celebration of Life will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the church, with Pastor Dallas Jones officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Monroe Church of God Cemetery.
“The thief comes only to steal, to kill, and to destroy; Jesus came that we may have life and have it to the full,” so today we celebrate that Mike is living in Glory, doing what he most longed for his whole life.
