Mamie Mason Dodd stepped into heaven on October 12, 2014. She was welcomed by her parents, Lacy and Lillie Mason and brothers, Earl, Keith, and Gibbs. Her grandson, Adam Claybrook Dodd met her and showed her around. She was finally able to meet her Lord, Jesus.
Mamie was born on June 1, 1927 in Charlotte County. At the age of nine, her mother passed away and Mamie, along with her father, raised her four younger brothers, Keith, Gibbs, John, and Buck. Mamie graduated from Randolph-Henry High School in 1945.
On November 21, 1947, Mamie and F. Parker Dodd united in marriage. They would have been married sixty-seven years, this year. They were blessed with four children, Benita Unrue (Ronnie), James (Bo) Dodd (Donna), all of Monroe, Wanda Holt (Lloyd) of Phenix, and Cindy Mae Dodd of Richmond. Their grandchildren are Janell Stinnett (H.B.), Bobby Unrue, Joshua Holt, Megan Stanfield (Eric), Jenna Amos (Alex), Kelly Wall (David), and Jennifer Woodard (Mark). Mamie was blessed with seven great grandchildren and her caregiver, Becky Bryant.
Mamie was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Monroe until her health started declining. She loved flowers, working in the garden, and sewing for her family. Most of all, she loved when all of her family was together, laughing, talking, joking, and making homemade ice cream. Mamie lived life to the fullest.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Briarwood Memorial Gardens with Pastor Glynn Coleman officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Whitten Monelison Chapel and other times at Mamie and Parker’s residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Monroe Building Fund or to a charity of choice.
