Martha Jean Barber George

Martha Jean Barber George, 78, of Madison Heights, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was the devoted wife of Clyde Bennett George for fifty-seven years.

Born November 7, 1932 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Moses Samuel and Jessie Rigney Barber and was also preceded in death by one son, Clyde Glen George, Sr.; three brothers, Emmett L. Barber, Randall M. Barber, and Ernest R. Barber and one sister, Joyce L. Barber and a half-sister, Mary George. Jean was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.

In addition to her husband, Jean is survived by her daughter, Brenda G. Fittro and husband, David of Madison Heights; a sister, Jewel B. Adkins of Blairs and three grandchildren, Sarah Jean Fittro, Jonathan David Fittro, and Clyde Glen George, Jr.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Meade Cemetery in Madison Heights with the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton officiating

The family will receive friends on Thursday, prior to the service, from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.
