Meredith "Mert" John Ramsey

Mert was born on March 2nd, 1921 in Buena Vista, Virginia. He was the son of the late Robert H. Ramsey and Dora Mason Ramsey. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. As a young man he joined the Conservation Camp and eventually enlisted in the U.S. Army. He spent 5 years in Puerto Rico and there he married Minerva.

Together they had 3 daughters: The late Helen Parker married to Buddy and she had 2 daughters, the late Pamela Dawn Camden and Lori Anne Browder Padgett. Millie Sizer married to Donnie and their children Shelley Sizer Woodroof and son, John Sizer. Sherry Patton married to Jeff and their children Blayne Patton, the late Cory Patton, and their daughter Bryce Patton. Mert enjoyed building, gardening, and spending family time with his grand-children, and his 8 great grand-children which include Conner, Ethan, and Courtney Padgett, Jacob and Madison Woodroof, Matthew Sizer, and Stone and Grey Patton. Our father and grandfather and the “old grandpa Mert,” will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Our Heavenly Father blessed him with a very long life and called him home to be with all of the others who passed before him.

The family would like to thank all of the wonderful caregivers at Fairmont for taking such good care of him in his final few weeks of life. A special thanks to all of the family members who helped him remain at home until the end. It literally took a village and was so much appreciated! Additionally, a special thanks to Sharon Hartless for her dedication and support during this last year.

There will be a private family celebration of life in his honor. Mert will be buried at the Amherst Cemetery in Amherst, Virginia.
