Nancy Godwin Baldwin

Nancy Godwin Baldwin of Sweet Briar, VA, passed away on August 5, 2013. She enjoyed nearly five decades as an administrator and professional communicator for Sweet Briar College where she served in a variety of positions, including Director of Admissions and Editor of the Alumnae Magazine. In 2007, Nancy received Sweet Briar’s Outstanding Alumnae Award in recognition of her many years of service to the College. She was a graduate of St. Catherine’s School in Richmond, VA, and the Class of 1957 at Sweet Briar College.

Nancy was the daughter of the late Francis King Godwin and Cannie Sells Godwin of Petersburg, VA, and the widow of Thomas Lee Baldwin, of Monroe, VA. She was also predeceased by her sister Rosemary Godwin Crysler, of Haverford, PA.

Nancy is survived by her two nieces: Cannie Crysler Shafer, her husband Edwin Shafer and their children Frances and Blake; and Sophia Crysler Hart and her husband Richard Hadley.

Nancy will be remembered by her many dear friends and colleagues at Sweet Briar and by her loving caregivers at Fairmont Crossing, especially Kenny Campbell, Jacqueline Toliver, Sherwanda Woodson, Evelyn Massie and Amanda Ford.

A memorial service will be held at the Sweet Briar Chapel on Saturday, October 26, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. Friends and family are invited to a reception, following the service.

Gifts may be made in Nancy’s name toward a student scholarship at Sweet Briar College.
