Born June 28, 1938, in Grundy, VA, Peggy was the daughter of the late John K. Ratliff and Mallie H. Justice. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Irving H. Cash.
Peggy lived a life marked by kindness, service, and deep devotion to those around her. A longtime employee of Walmart, she dedicated over 25 years to her work, where she was known not only for her strong work ethic but also for her warm spirit and genuine care for others. Peggy never met a stranger—her gentle nature and giving heart made her a true friend to many.
A faithful member of Temple Baptist Church, Peggy was baptized and saved, and her faith remained a guiding light throughout her life. She found joy in the simple pleasures—tending to her flowers, collecting porcelain dolls, and especially in her time spent in the kitchen. Holidays were made sweeter by her incredible baking, and her legendary “Hermit Cake” was always a favorite among family and coworkers.
Peggy loved her trips to Tennessee, but nothing brought her more happiness than being surrounded by her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Elms of Lynchburg and to Yolanda for their compassionate care and support in Peggy’s final days.
She is survived by her three children: Irving M. Cash (Lynnette), Scarlett Morris (Phillip), and Sharon Cash; three siblings: Betty S. Parson, Bobby Ratliff, and Tim Ratliff; eight grandchildren: Phillip M. Morris (Stephanie), Jason S. Morris (Ming), Melissa D. Hunter, Lauren M. Hunter, Hannah L. Hunter, Amanda G. Sanders (Scott), Ashley C. Witt (Dustin), and Scott Staton (Tina), Michael V. Cash; and fourteen great-grandchildren: Phillip M. Morris Jr., Savannah Morris, Daniel Morris, Anna Morris, Alex Morris, Paisley Hunter, Ryder Hunter, Addison Johnson, Jesse Hunter, Amber Witt, Trevor Witt, Jayde Staton, Lacie Staton, and Laila Staton. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 2, 2025, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Seth Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Amherst Cemetery.
