She was born on May 18, 1936 in Lynchburg, daughter of the late Harry W. Wright and the late Mary H. Wright. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roy O. Staton, a step daughter, Kathy Carroll, as well as a brother, James “Sonny” Wright, Sr. and four sisters, Helen Jamerson, Jean Tyree, Betty Wright, and Jeanette Miller.
Phyllis was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church and retired from Randolph Macon College. She loved her bingo, and enjoyed watching westerns on TV as well as enjoying the outdoors and attending family gatherings.
Survivors include her four children, Tony Stinnett (Kathy), James Stinnett (Donna), Roy Staton (Janet), and Denise Osborne (Charlie). She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at Whitten Monelison Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association.
