Robert Lee Jennings, 75, of Amherst passed away on October 25, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carolyn Fay Proffitt Jennings.
Born February 6, 1937 in Amherst, he was a son of the late Robert Lee Jennings, Sr. and Ola Mae Chambers Jennings. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. He was self-employed, a member of Virginia Nurserymen’s Association, a brethren of a Masonic Lodge and Shriners International. His passions were coaching little league, hunting, fishing, playing and teaching music, and continuously serving his community.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, Donald R. Jennings (Bettie Sue), two sons, Larry R. Jennings (Kim), G. Michael Jennings (Charlotte) and a daughter, Carolyn J. Ashwell (Earl); eight grandchildren, Lindsay Phillips (Joe), Heidi Curd (Robert), Brad Jennings, Ashley Jennings, Zach Ashwell (Michelle), Dustin Jennings, Brett Ashwell, and Devin Ashwell; three great grandchildren, Dylan Phillips, Peyton Ashwell, and William Curd.
Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct 28, 2012 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by Rev. Michael R. Fitzgerald and Rev. John P. Campbell. The family will receive friends immediately after the service has concluded.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all those who helped in caring for Bobby and continuing to care for Fay, especially Josephine Nappier and Brenda Kozak.
