

Born on January 9, 1945, in Hurt, Virginia, he was the son of the late James Owen Compton and Mildred Hailey Compton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Patricia Cashara Compton, who passed away in May of this year.
Ronald is survived by his daughter, Gina Craun (Charles); and two grandchildren, Charles and Coy Craun.
Ron graduated from Altavista High School in 1963, and then attended Lynchburg College to achieve his Master’s in Educational Administration in 1969. He ultimately earned his Educational Specialist degree from the University of Virginia. Ron leaves behind a tenured career in public education. He began his journey teaching at Appomattox County High School where he coached football, baseball, and basketball. Ron also dedicated 27 years as a school administrator in Brunswick County and Amherst County, where he served as assistant principal of Monelison Middle School, and principal of Pleasant View and Temperance Elementary Schools. While principal of Pleasant View and Temperance, Ron volunteered in the Pedlar Ruritan Club so that he could further support the communities’ families in need.
Ron loved to hunt, fish, and garden, especially his tomato plants. He took pride bragging how many tomato plants he had and thrived on growing a big tomato. One of his favorite meals while sitting in his tree-stand was tomato soup, saltine crackers, and Vienna sausages. He was a devoted UVA basketball and football fan.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm, Thursday, January 1, 2026, at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Whitten Monelison Chapel, officiated by Rev. Steve Tyree. The family will host a reception to follow at Elon Ruritan Club, 2120 Elon Road, Madison Heights, Virginia 24572.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial donations be made to New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 547, Hurt, VA 24563.
