Born July 12, 1955 in Amherst County, he was a son of the late Hester Dodd Martin, Sr. and Nancy Mays Martin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Martin. Roy was a former employee of Lynchburg Foundry and was of Baptist faith. He never met a stranger and had a heart of gold, he inherited from his father.
Roy is survived by his sister, Nancy Martin of Lynchburg, whom he dearly loved and adored; brothers, Richard Martin of Madison Heights and Hester Martin, Jr. of Rustburg and a special nephew, Michael Dodd, whom he loved dearly. Roy grew up on a farm in Amherst County. He loved farming, fishing, and his favorite, hunting.
A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. (noon), Monday, March 7, 2022 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Larry Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow at Amherst Cemetery.
The family will receive friends, at the funeral home, for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
