

Born in Albany, Georgia, October 29, 1923, he was the son of the late Rufus Alexander Scott and Mary Beasley Scott. He was US Army Air Corp. veteran. He served during WWII as a pilot of the B-17 bomber. R.A., loved to farm and did so throughout his career. He was also active in his community having served on the Amherst County Board of Supervisors, Amherst Town Manager, member of the Amherst Rotary Club and the Clinton Masonic Lodge. He retired from General Electric and was a member of St. Stephens Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Younis Scott and one brother, John Robert Scott.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, R. Alexander “Ray” Scott, III and his wife Sharon of Brunswick, GA, J. Michael Scott, Phillip A. Scott and H. Bruce Scott and his wife Terri all of Amherst; two step-daughters, Lynda Payne and her husband Donald Bryant of North Garden, VA and Sheila Aylor and her husband Davy of Madison County one sister, Mary S. Barlow of Orange Park, FL; seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
A graveside service celebrating R.A.’s life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 10, 2015 at St. Stephen’s Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Mickey Ryan officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
