Shirley Spence Angus, 77, of Madison Heights, passed away Friday, September 14, 2018 at Lynchburg Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was the loving and devoted wife of James Thornton Angus for fifty-eight years.
Born November 28, 1940 in Montgomery County, she was the daughter of the late Ross Delmar Spence and Callie Shockley Spence and was also preceded in death by one great grandchild, Caden Michael Angus. Shirley was a retired pathology secretary with Centra Health and was a member of Monroe United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Gary W. Angus and wife Kim of Madison Heights, Larry D. Angus (Sylvia Shawver) of Amherst, and James E. “Jimmy” Angus and wife Pat of Madison Heights; one daughter, Faith A. Gilley and husband Cliff of Waikoloa, HI; two sisters, Roberta S. Rhyne and husband Bill of Aurora, CO and Virginia S. Noel and husband Wilson of Forest; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A funeral service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Whitten Monelison Chapel. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from
6:00-7:30 p.m., Monday, September 17, 2018 at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
