

Ray was born in Amherst County on July 5, 1934, son of the late Vivian M. Campbell and Esther T. Campbell.
He is survived by his loving wife Patricia Maddox Campbell; a daughter, Kathy C. Bryant; two sons, Alvin B. Campbell and Calvin K. Campbell; three brothers, Melvin Campbell, Gene Campbell, Gleason Campbell; two sisters, Vivian Drummond and Ann Irvine; twelve grandchildren, Kayla Barbour, Chase Bryant, Mackenzie Bryant, Karsyn Brady, Hunter Brady, Jeffrey Campbell, Jonathon Campbell, Zachary Campbell, Lucas Campbell, Samantha Cundiff, Christopher Pargas, Derrick Pargas;0 seven great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by in death by a daughter, Shela Pargas; and a brother, Dandridge Campbell.
Ray was a retired Carman for Norfolk Southern Railroad. He was a man who loved to dance and tend to his cattle, but his grandchildren were the most special thing in his life.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 13, 2017 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Whitten Monelison Chapel where the funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 11:00 am with Pastor Jeffrey Campbell officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery.
