
Born March 21, 1949, in Nelson County, he was a son of the late John and Florence Hamilton Tyler. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Janet Tyler, and Sue Christian; and three brothers, Calvin, Curtis, and Roy Tyler.
Mr. Tyler was a retired United States Army veteran, having served for 21 years, and was the former owner/operator of the Du Drop In, for 15 years. He was a volunteer for the Red Cross.
Survivors also include two daughters, Ann Tyler Bachman and husband Dan, of Madison Heights, and Johanna Tyler Shelton, and husband Allen, of Pittsville; two sisters, Ruth Murphy and husband Roger, of Goode, and Margie Dunbar, of Augusta, GA; a brother, Bobby Tyler and wife Toddie, of West Point; a sister-in-law, Tok Sun Smith, of Madison Heights; two grandchildren, Conner and Julia Shelton, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 pm. at Whitten Monelison Chapel and at other times at the residence.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park, with military honors by American Legion Post 16.
