

Barbara Ann Brown Matthews, of South Charleston, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2015, at Valley Center, South Charleston, following a long illness. Barbara was the daughter of the late James Edward and Charlotte Childers Brown. She was a graduate of DuPont High School, formerly employed by C & P Telephone Company and Goody’s Clothing Store. She was a Christian and attended First Presbyterian Church of Nitro. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy K. Matthews; grandparents, James and Lillie Brown and Garland and Florence Childers; and several aunts and uncles. She is survived by a grandson whom they raised, Roy Kent Short; great-granddaughter, Kenzie Short; step-children, Kay Short, Mark Matthews, Charles D. Matthews and Eva Ruth Mitchell; aunts and uncles, Bettie (George) Kesterson, Alma (James) Totten and Paul (Sue) Brown. The funeral service will at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2015, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with Pastor David Lee officiating. The burial will follow the service in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. A visitation with family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2015, at the funeral home. The family expresses a special thank you for the love and care shown to Barbara by Shirley Eagle, Cheryl Eagle and Gail Bush.
