Billie Joy Schneider Borland Smith, born July 21, 1945, went home to be with her Lord on September 19, 2016, with her husband by her side reading the fourth chapter of Philippians. Billie was the daughter of the late J. William Schneider and Katherine Stevens Schneider Greene and the step-daughter of the late Edward H. Greene. Billie was born in Huntington, WV, and graduated from Chesapeake High School in 1963. While at Chesapeake, she was a majorette and was loved by her classmates. She graduated Ohio State University in 1967 with a B.S. in Dental Hygiene and was a member of Alpha Phi sorority. While at Ohio State, she met her first husband, Ronald Allan Borland, whom she married in 1968, and they lived in Atlanta, Georgia, for thirty years. After his death in 1999, she continued to live in Atlanta and served wholeheartedly in the Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Her sisters prayed that God would send her a godly husband in His time, and He did! On February 15, 2003, she married Robert K. Smith, moved back to her roots and lived in Proctorville, Ohio, until her death. For the past thirteen years, Billie has been active in the New Baptist Church where she organized the Women’s Ministry and Bible studies. She loved God's Word and was not bashful about sharing it with others. She was also a member of the Berean Sunday School Class, a member of the Sanctuary Choir and co-leader of the Church Decorating Committee. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. She was the driving force behind Operation TLC in eastern Lawrence County, a group dedicated to beautifying the area and keeping it free from litter. Billie and her husband loved to travel, and especially enjoyed their trips to the Holy Land and a Footsteps of the Apostle Paul journey. She is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Keith Smith; her three children, Anne Katherine “Kit” Borland Friend (Chris), Ronda Borland Biven (Russell) and John Mount Borland (Melissa); her step-children, David Scott Smith (Megen) and Sherri Catherine Smith (David Hatfield); her grandchildren, Conner Friend, Allan, Will and Kate Biven, Claire, Samuel and Luke Borland, Morgan Joyner (Bryce) and Nicholas Smith; her sisters, Carolyn Schneider Norris (Dale) and Kathie Ann Schneider Gue (Rick); her sisters-in-law Lois Merritt and Helen Robbins; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 3-6 p.m., Thursday, September 22, 2016, at New Baptist Church, 610 28th Street, Huntington, WV 25705. The service will follow at the church at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers please make your remembrances to the Women's Bible Study Ministry at New Baptist Church.
