

Gladys E. Wright, 88, of Campbells Creek, went home to be with the Lord and Robert on Monday, May 26, 2014, at Hubbard Hospice House after a long illness. Gladys was born at Coal Fork on October 2, 1925, the fifth daughter of the late Roma and Mabel Wilson Trigg. She began work at the age of 17 for the Point Lick Company Store and Post Office, where she met the love of her life, Robert. After their marriage, in 1955 they moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where she began a bookkeeping career at Cleveland Towel and Forest City Foundries. They then returned to Charleston in 1972 where she began working for the WV Department of Highways and she retired in 1987 with a Distinguished West Virginian Certificate. After retiring, they moved to Weston in 1992 where they attended Murphy’s Creek Baptist Church and became very active and made many friends. Following the death of her husband, Robert, she moved back to Charleston in 2002. She was a member of the Point Lick Gospel Tabernacle where she served many years as the Treasurer. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six sisters, Ada Wolfe, Aline Armstrong, Maggie “Sister” Rhodes, Helen McVey, Janet Kennedy and Phyllis Kennedy. She is survived by her children, Marlin “Sam” (Pam) Bays of Charleston, Sheila “Diane” (Don) McLemore of Avon Lake, Ohio, and Patricia “Trish” (Roger) Cochran of Mobile, Alabama; sister and precious friend, Peggy Branham of Campbells Creek; and life-long and dear friend, June Webb Burke of Clover Drive; five grandchildren, Lisa (Scott) Moyer, Sherri Banta, Jeff (Angelica) McLemore, Chad Bays and Craig (Cindy) Bays; ten great-grandchildren, Janelle (Greg) Vandetta, Landon Moyer, Haylee and Keaton Banta, Will, Davis and Dylan McLemore, and Jacob, Joshua and Luke Bays. The funeral service will be held noon Friday, May 30, 2014, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with Pastors Larry Campbell and Wease Day officiating. The burial will follow the service in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. A visitation with family and friends will be held Thursday, May 29, 2014, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Curtis Price Way, Charleston, West Virginia 25311 or Point Lick Gospel Tabernacle Building Fund.
