

Herman Earl Newman, of Malden, went home to be with the Lord on April 14, 2016. Herman was born on October 23, 1923 in Malden, WV. Herman was a charter member of Mary Virginia Gospel Tabernacle, where he dedicated his life to God at the age of 17. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II in the Aleutians Islands in Alaska. Herman retired from Owens Illinois Glass Company after 30 years of service and also retired from Central Parking Systems after 12 years of service. Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Hurly and Grace Wendell Newman, and his sisters, Gladys Hancock, Marie Bowles, Dorothy Nutter, Pat Smith and Peggy Newman. Herman is survived by his wife of 68 years, Opal Crowder Newman; daughter, Marietta (Ray) Bays of Tad; sons, Rick (Peggy) of St. Albans, WV, Larry (Janice) of Fredericksburg, VA, Mark (Carmen) of Given, WV, and Kevin (Brenda) of Charlotte Hall, MD; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Louise Gray of Upper Glade, WV, Betty Ray of Ohio, Nancy Norman of Florida, and Jean Heater of Campbells Creek, WV; brothers, Ray Newman of Belle, WV and David Newman of Ohio. The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2016, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with Pastor Chris Namey, Pastor Junior Holley and the Rev. Rick McCracken officiating. The burial will follow the service with military rites at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow. Family and friends will gather for a visitation on Sunday, April 17, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
