Known throughout the community and the fire department as Jerry Lee or the Deuce, he enjoyed working with junior firefighters, not from just a firefighter prospective, but teaching them the importance of conducting themselves professionally in everyday life through education and personal conduct. He trained and led the fire department Vehicular Extraction team to four straight number one finishes competing in the West Virginia Firefighter/EMS competition. He graduated from East Bank High School in 1998 where he played baseball for the Pioneers. He began his work in the community by coaching baseball, basketball, football after graduations. He was a co-founder and writer at BlueGoldSports.com. He served as an Emergency Medical Technician for the Kanawha County Ambulance Authority, and Whitesville Fire Department. In 2009 he furthered his love for his community and those who comprised it, by running for councilman in the Town of Marmet where he continued as councilman until his departure from life. He will be remembered as a hard, but fair councilman who was always willing to listen to everyone’s questions and concerns. But more importantly, he worked for fairness/equally for the town’s residents. With his glowing and never ending smile, it was evident that he truly enjoyed serving the people of the town of Marmet and living life to the fullest. He will be missed by us all.
