Mary Rebecca Dawson

Mary Rebecca Dawson, 97, of South Charleston, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loving family on June 27, 2015 at Hubbard Hospice House. She was born March 19, 1918, in Spring Hill, to John Ralph and Carrie Rosetta (Alstead) Stine. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Norval Edward (“Buster”) Dawson; her brothers, William and Arthur Stine; her sister, Laura Hendricks; her sons, Thomas Lee and Norval Keith; her daughter, Helen Jean Shank Massey; and sons-in-law, Ralph Warren Shank, Drexel C. “Rex” Cummings and Earl Lee (“Wimpy”) Hawkins. Left to cherish her memories are her children, Patricia (Don) Cottrell of Charleston; Hazel (Jim) Creasey of Winifrede; Nancy (Charles) Gibson of South Charleston; Robert (Nanci) Dawson of Cedarville, and Peggy Jackson of Port Orange, Florida; daughter-in-law, Jewell Dawson of Charleston; grandchildren, Michael (Lisa) Shank, Terry Hawkins, Kathy (Tony) Sergent, Kari (Jeff) Dean, Sherrie Marcum, Sabrena (Kenny) Munster, Chuck (Autumn) Gibson, Lisa (David) Roberts and Candace (Greg) Minnick; great-grandchildren, Kassie Shank, Brandyn Shank, Christopher Jones, Paige Jones, Samantha Marcum, Justin Simmoneau, Emma Minnick and Max Minnick. She made her home in Winifrede from 1936 until 2005, when she moved to South Charleston to reside with her daughter Nancy. She retired in 1987 from the United Postal Service as the Post Master of the Winifrede Post Office with 24 years of dedicated service. The funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with Pastor Ollie Parsons officiating. The burial will follow the service in Montgomery Memorial Park, London. Friends and family will gather for a visitation two hours before the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
