Roger Lee Booth Sr.

It is with indescribable pain and sadness that the family of Roger L. Booth, Sr. of Charleston, WV announce his tragic and untimely drowning death, which occurred during a guided float trip on his beloved Bitterroot River in Hamilton, Montana on June 24th, 2024. Roger loved the Bitterroot Valley and was making his 39th annual trip to the valley to fish when his death occurred.

Roger was born February 14th, 1948 in his maternal grandmother’s boarding house in Accoville, WV. His early childhood years were spent in a loving Christian home, provided by his parents, Laura and Harry Booth. Roger spent most hours of the day fishing the creeks of Logan County.

He was a 1966 graduate of Charleston High School, and he subsequently graduated from WVU Institute of Technology.

He served his country in the Marine Reserves.

He was a good provider for his family, having worked at Kroger, Libby Owens Ford Glass, and mining companies in a supervisory position to include Carbon Fuel, Hobet & Patriot Coal Companies.

He was a man of faith and had attended The Kanawha City Baptist Church. He was a member of the Kanawha City Lions Club.

His love for fishing throughout his 76 years of life was only superseded by his love for his family and friends. Roger never met a stranger, but most conversations included a fishing story.

He was preceded in death by his father Harry Booth, Jr. with whom he is most likely still sharing his fishing tales as you read this.

He is survived by his wife of 56+ years, Linda Toler Booth. Roger & Linda were always together, maintaining the home base for family, friends, and any neighborhood animal who needed help.

He is survived by his precious mother, Laura Booth, his loving sisters, Sharon (Donald) Midkiff of Milton, WV and Marsha (Jeff) Pennington of Charleston, WV.

Roger was so proud of his two wonderful children who survive him, Courtney Booth and husband, Tate Cheek of Asheville, NC, and Roger “Lee” Booth, Jr. of Bridgeport, WV.

He is also survived by his adoring grandchildren, Laura “Virginia” Cheek of Asheville, NC, Brett Andrew Booth of Dallas, Texas (currently a student at SMU), and Kathryn “Kit” Virginia Booth, of Bridgeport, WV (currently a senior at Bridgeport, High School). They were truly the loves of his life.

In addition, he is survived by many loving cousins, nieces, great nephews and friends far and wide. Roger never met a stranger.

There will be a graveside burial service at Graceland Memorial Park on July 3rd, 2024 at 11:00a.m., with a celebration of his life at The Kanawha City Baptist Church on July 13th, 2024 at l2 p.m. Services will be officiated by his pastor and very dear friend, Rev. Don Toler.

His family is inviting all family and friends to a Celebration of Life Service, which will be held at 12 Noon, July 13, 2024, at the Kanawha City Baptist Church, 4500 Venable Avenue SE, Charleston, West Virginia, officiated by his pastor and dear friend, the Rev. Don Toler.

Family and friends are also invited to the reception following the service in the Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Society, as he was such a lover of all animals.
