June 25, 1931-December 25, 2015
Barnegat, NJ — Arlene DiSanto, a long-time resident of Fort Lee, NJ, died Friday, Christmas morning, December 25th, 2015 in the Southern Ocean Medical Center in Barnegat, NJ. Her devoted husband, Angelo, was by her side as she passed.
She was born on June 25th, 1931 in the family home, built by her father in Fort Lee, New Jersey. Her parents, Ancilla and Bruno Litterini, named her Arlene Clara. It was in this Fort Lee house that she lived her childhood with sisters, Josephine (Jo) and Mary. It is the same home where Arlene and Angelo would go on to raise their two sons, John and Richard.
Arlene and Angelo met in 1947, while both attending Fort Lee High School. Mutual friends introduced them after a basketball game that Arlene went to watch Angelo play. The two stopped dating, while Angelo served the U.S. Army, but resumed their courtship upon his return in August 1952 and went on to marry on October 4th, 1953.
After graduating Fort Lee High School in 1949, Arlene worked in New York City for Bell Telephone Lab before becoming a mom. After her sons were grown, Arlene became the warm and dedicated associate behind the counter of Fort Lee’s Mediterranean Towers valet services, welcoming patrons for over 25 years.
Arlene loved good food, music, and socializing, but most importantly family gatherings. Her passion for learning never diminished, always enjoying meeting new people, reading the latest novels and exploring this country and the world as to see it through the eyes of her loved ones. She traveled to her parents’ homeland of Italy and to Hong Kong, when her son John was working there. She ventured to California, Florida, Virginia, Maryland and anywhere she could spend time with family always with Angelo by her side.
Arlene is survived by her husband, Angelo, their two sons John and Richard, their wives Kathy and Alice, sisters Jo Hassler and Mary LaPietra, along with her grandchildren John (JJ) DiSanto, Kristin Breads, Craig DiSanto and Benjamin DiSanto.
In lieu of flowers, Arlene would have wished for memorial gifts to be made St. Mary’s Church food pantry to help individuals and families in need. Donations can be brought directly to the church or checks made out to “St. Mary’s Church” with a footnote for “Food Pantry”. The address is 747 W. Bay Avenue, Barnegat, NJ 08005.
