Rose loved her family. She was a devoted wife to Pasquale Turturro. Rose was a tender and loving mother to their three daughters Patricia Pastore, Michele Turturro Young and JoAnn Ottobre. She would not miss the chance to spoil her sons-in-law, Anthony Pastore, David Young and Chris Ottobre with their favorite dishes come Sunday afternoon. Grandma Rosie, as she was known to the grandchildren she adored, never missed a sporting event, dance recital, commencement, or Sacramental celebration. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Anthony Pastore and wife Nicole and their two daughters; Patric Pastore and wife Justina; Michael Pastore and wife Tiffany; Michelle Ottobre and her partner Peter Roman and their daughter; and Alexa and husband Vincent DiSimone.
Rose was born in 1934 on January 16, the youngest daughter of nine children born to Josephine and Louis Lindia in Newark, NJ. In her teen years she enjoyed roller skating and dancing the Mambo. She was a young woman of faith moved by beautiful Novenas prayed in churches in her neighborhood. Rose was working as a secretary at American Steel Foundry where coworker Pasquale caught sight of her typing and instantly fell for her. That moment began a love story that would last over 68 years. They were married on St. Valentine’s Day in 1954 and while living in the Ironbound section of Newark they welcomed their first child in December of that year. Six years later they moved to Irvington where they had two more daughters. After raising their girls, they moved to Union and eventually retired to Barnegat, NJ.
Rose was a beautician owning the Patrician Salon on Stuyvesant Avenue in Irvington. She also sold real estate and had a broker's license. Rose took pride in her vocation as a wife and mother. Some favorite memories are of her cooking delicious meals for her family, carefully mending her husband's work clothes, or patiently listening to her daughter's narrative of every single second of the school day. Rose enjoyed reading and kept up with current events through the newspaper daily. She lovingly cared for her father in his later years and could be counted on to be a friend to nieces and nephews. She extended generous hospitality to all who entered her home with her warm and gentle manner.
Rose was a wise and compassionate woman, respecting all who crossed her path. To the sorrow of her family, she was afflicted with Alzheimer's disease and dementia in her later years but even throughout that terrible disease this beautiful woman was calm and peaceful. She endured the indignities of that disease with the same grace she exemplified throughout her life.
Rose will be missed by all who love her but most especially by her devoted husband who loved her and honored her every day of their lives.
