Barry was born on January 24, 1952 in Manhattan, New York. He was raised in the Bronx and lived in Vermont and Brooklyn before moving with his family to their home in Marlboro, New Jersey. Barry graduated with a BA in History from Queens College in 1974, and received a JD from Vermont Law School in 1977. Barry worked as an Administrative Manager in the Tax and Bankruptcy Litigation Division of the New York City Law Department for 40 years before retiring in 2018. He was a devoted husband and father, who enjoyed playing golf, attending music concerts, and meeting new people. He was a friend to everyone and will truly be missed.
Barry is survived by his daughter Allison Godlewicz and her husband Christopher McKenna; son Andrew Godlewicz; brother Alan Godlewicz and his wife Sharon; and grandsons Brayden and Connor McKenna.
Barry was predeceased by his wife Barbara Godlewicz in October 2021, and his parents Michael and Henia Godlewicz.
A funeral service will be held Monday, April 21, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, 44 Wilson Avenue, Manalapan, New Jersey 07726 immediately followed by a committal service at 1:30 PM at Beth El Cemetery, 735 Forest Avenue, Washington Township, New Jersey 07675.
Shiva will be observed at his residence on Monday after the burial until 9:00 PM, as well as on Tuesday and Wednesday 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM. A minyan will be held each evening.
