Mr. Hutter was my favorite teacher at New Brunswick High School and I believe influenced me to become a teacher as well. He was kind, caring, and cool! So very sorry to hear of his passing. He did make a great and positive impact on me.

Me Hutter was my teacher in New Brunswick . I have taught for 44 years and I must say that he was my inspiration to teach. He was the nicest and best  teacher I ever had. So sorry to hear of his passing.

We were tennis partners in Pittsfield. Could not meet a better man than Dave.

At NBHS we knew him as Mr. Hutter. I still called him Mr. Hutter when I visited him in East Brunswick with my wife many years after I graduated. We called him Mr. Hutter out of respect, and if there were a more respectful address, we would have used that. Thus you will forgive me if I refer to him as Mr. Hutter now.
Mr. Hutter was without doubt the greatest of high school math teachers, and the greatest high school teacher of any subject, because he was a great human being. He was a great human being in the classroom, teaching us, beyond mathematics, what it meant to be fully human in the best sense.
One is naturally suspicious of superlatives, but not to use superlatives with Mr. Hutter would be to commit the real falsehood. For those of us who were fortunate to be his students, and to be taught by him about life as well as math, he was a giant among men. A slender unassuming man of good humor, nevertheless, when he passed us in the hallway, it felt as if the ground shook, such was his moral stature for us.
He was an adept and enthusiastic mathematician, fully conversant to be able to explain the mathematically ineffable to a poet such as myself, and possessing sufficient rigor to go toe to toe with students who were on the verge of distinguishing themselves in mathematical study at such places as MIT.
For the future Ph.D. in English, he brought in a book of Chinese poetry in translation, for my education and my pleasure, but most of all out of respect for my own discipline and my own kind of intelligence, quite far as it was from the mathematical. Or was it? He always said that he saw beauty in mathematics. So much did I value his opinion that I showed him my poems, which he read with insight and sympathy.
Mr. Hutter taught with passion and lived life with conviction. It was clear to us that he loved his family more than anything else. But he was also a humanitarian, in the truest sense of the word. He loved people, all people, and his love extended to all of us. When I was wrestling with the clash between the ideal and the real, he said that we always need to keep our ideals to guide us through reality. The ultimate lesson that he had to teach us was not some Pythagorean theorem, but decency and compassion, purpose and self-respect, courage and self-reliance.

David Hutter was a kind and gentle man. I always felt welcome in his home. I know he was a very devoted family man, and he will be greatly missed.

I had the distinct honor and privilege of being in Mr David Hutter's homeroom at NBHS. He was indeed a great educator and a real gentleman. With my 45th reunion looming, I was recently thinking about memorable teachers and Mr Hutter is at the top of that list. Few words can ease the loss but as someone else mentioned, he touched the lives of many people in very positive ways and his memory will live in on through them. My sincere condolences to his family and many friends.

It wasn't always easy being a math teacher at NBHS.  Mr. Hutter was a math teacher with style and grace and humor and an ever-present smile.  Gaining the respect and admiration of high school students has never been easy.  Not only did we all respect and admire Mr. Hutter, we loved him.  The world has lost a kind and decent and caring human being.  Family members: please be comforted during this time of loss in knowing that there are thousands of former students out there who will always remember him fondly.

Dear Sharon,  I am so very sorry to hear of your sweet fathers passing. He was such a wonderful math teacher at NBHS ...so kind, understanding, and always smiling. Sending prayers to you and your family, as you mourn the passing of this great man.

Mr. Hutter was a wonderful teacher who brought great enthusiasm for math and interest in his students into the classroom.  He had a lot to do with my my choice to study and subsequently teach engineering.  My condolences to his family.

I was lucky enough to have Mr. Hutter for Algebra II at NBHS in 1967 and to this day when I think of an outstanding teacher Mr. Hutter comes to mind immediately. He was an awesome teacher and a wonderful person.

Mr. Hutter was an exceptional teacher. I extend my sincere condolences to his entire family. His teaching skills taught me how to learn and study difficult subjects. I will always appreciate his kindness, attitude, and understanding.

As a career educator myself, I hope that my students will remember me with the fondness that I have for Mr. Hutter.  He was a kind man and a great teacher. I had him at New Brunswick High about 45 years ago.  My sympathies to his family!

Mr Hutter was one of the best teachers I had at MTHS. He knew when to be serious and when it was time to to laugh. 

In the early days of MTHS he was a much needed leader.  He was also well respected among  the students.

My sincere condolence to the Hutter family for the loss of your beloved one. May the God of all comfort and peace strengthen you during this difficult time.

It was my pleasure to have known and taught with Dave at Monroe Twp. H.S. He was the consummate professional educator and had a refreshing wit and sense of humor with his students and colleagues.
