MONROE TOWNSHIP - Dovera Irene Kasper, (age 82), of Monroe Township, NJ, passed away on 7/11/2023 surrounded by her family and friends. Irene was a first generation American, born to immigrant parents Jack and Etta Temerson in the Bronx, NY. She had a younger brother Russ who passed away less than a week ago. A graduate of Taft High School, Irene was a life-long learner who pursued advanced course work at multiple institutions, an avid reader and enjoyed the stimulation of Jewish study and discussion.
Irene met the love of her life, Sy Kasper, at the Yankee Bowl bowling alley and together were inseparable throughout their 62 years of marriage. They were wed only a year after they met in 1960 and had three children; Bruce, Robert and Cheryl. She cherished her role as a mother and especially loved her extended family relationships. She also worked as a manager and bookkeeper in various industries including the family business. The family’s progression led them from the Bronx, to Queens, Long Island, then Monroe Township, NJ.
Lifelong friendships were so very treasured. Irene was generous of heart, including her support for causes near and far. Her father suffered grievous losses from the Holocaust, explaining her love and support for the state of Israel. She was also an enthusiastic supporter of organizations supporting autistic children.
Irene and Sy loved traveling with and visiting their close friends at every opportunity. In addition to her three children, Irene will be greatly missed by her eight grandchildren Eric, Joshua, Ari, Julia, , Allison, Lexi, Erica, and Ella, as well as her nieces, nephews and very close friends. She was a mentor and role model to many she touched, including her devoted niece Michele.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Irene’s name to the Jewish National Fund, and Best Buddies. Services will be held on 7/13/23 at the Cedar Park Cemetery in Paramus NJ.
