Irving Holt, 99, died on October 16, 2019, at Applewood Estates in Freehold, N.J.
Services will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2019, at 12:30 P.M. in the Temple of Israel Mausoleum, Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge, N.J. Funeral services are under the direction of Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan, NJ.
Irving was born in Szczercow, Poland and was a victim of the Holocaust surviving 9 different camps from 1939 until liberation, by US Army forces, from Dachau in April, 1945. He met his wife, Jenny Holt, after liberation and married and immigrated to the United States in 1946. He lived in Newark, Hillside and Springfield, NJ, Lauderhill, Lake Worth and Palm Beach, FL before moving with Jenny to Applewood Estates in Freehold, NJ in 2011. Irving and Jenny were members of Sinai Congregation in Hillside, N.J. and Temple Beth Tikvah in Lake Worth, FL. He was a barber and owned the Circle Barber Shop initially on Chancellor Avenue in Newark and then on Mountain Avenue in Springfield, NJ.
Irving was predeceased by his loving wife of 70 years, Jenny, in 2016. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Dot and Frank Cheriff of Monroe Township, NJ; his son and daughter-in-law, Allan and Shelley Holt of Washington, DC; his four grandchildren Adam Cheriff and his wife Valerie of New Rochelle, NY; Danielle Esposito and her husband Michael of Westfield, NJ; David Holt and his wife Melissa of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Ryan Holt of Gaithersburg, MD. Irving is also survived by his four great grandchildren Jared Cheriff, Tyler Cheriff, Dylan Esposito and Talia Esposito. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews whom he loved dearly.
