I Miss Our Laughter &  Silliness Together......

INTO THE WILD BLUE YONDER LEW...
FLYING HIGH BOYCHICK

Bernice and family, it is with great sadness that I was learned of Lew's passing. We certainly have fond memories of times spent together on Mohawk Place, your store and the shore. I am grateful to have known Lew and will keep him in my prayers.  Debbie Fenichel Stroger Hargrave (Sheila's sister and Amy's Social Studies teacher).

In addition to the similar name, I share my uncle's love of flying and ketchup.
One of my earliest memories of Lew (he was around 25) was when he came by our Beach Haven house wet and dirty with a shotgun and a bunch of dead ducks for my mom to cook. 

When Lew and I were both taking flying lessons from Tony Teri ("Tony Bananas" as per Lew) in the early 1970s, Tony was making us lunch and asked if I wanted anything extra on my steak sandwich. I repeated in dumb 15 year-old fashion something I had recently heard in school: "I eat to live and don't live to eat". Tony looked at Lew and said "Well, he's not Italian that's for sure." Lew shook his head and lamented "Apparently he's not Jewish either"!

One time, before they had kids, Lew and Bernice joined a large gathering of other Levisons at a restaurant in Lakewood. His brother Billy was the family's top-billed comedian and started in with Bernice. "You're young, pretty, and really smart...what the hell do you see in Lew? I've known him his whole damn life and can't figure it out, what the hell do you see in this guy?" Bernice could have tried to play along but she stole the show being perfectly straight and honest: "Lew is the nicest person I've ever met." Billy was speechless; we all were. It was as if Charlton Heston had just walked in with the Ten Commandments. The truth is powerful.

Lew was gifted at sketching. Once in the early 1980s he drew a cartoon of himself, Billy, and my dad Norman in a Japanese WW2 Nakajima B5N Torpedo Bomber. He probably chose that plane because it was one of the few aircraft with exactly 3 seats in tandem (one behind the other). Recently at work I heard a radial engine and looked out my window. I was astonished to see what appeared to be a B5N fly by with a torpedo slung underneath! I correctly surmised it was a Hollywood copy. But I l think it was also a sign the Levison brothers finally got to take that flight together.

Finding only a few words to describe my feelings for and about the Great "Levinburg" from his dear departed friend Mike, and his much newer friend Eddie, who called him "Uncle Lew", will be very difficult to do. Lew always made you feel loved, liked, and happy whenever he saw you. That is the gift he gave to me ,my daughters, my son-in-laws, and even my grandchildren. We will all miss that very, very much. My condolences to The Beautiful Bernice, my very dear friend, to Sara, Amy, and all the children and family. Love, Pam   

Some of the my funniest memories while growing up were of when
Uncle Billy, my dad Norman, Aunt Rachel, and Uncle Lew got together on the holidays and started telling stories about Beach Haven and the many characters they knew from the ancient days. All of them together was priceless.


Lew has always meant so much to me.  Loved my visits with him when I was in New Jersey visiting Cousin Sonny and Aunt Elsie.  Lew was always so helpful to me in caring for them.  Thank you and rest in peace Cousin Lew.

Lew, I will miss our fun phone calls on our shared birthday; May 22!  I can always hear your upbeat voice in my head and it brings me joy.❤️


Lew was a sweetheart. I am so sorry for your terrible loss.

Lew: A Valued Remembrance!

So many years of special memories shared-
So many moments of joy and laughter-
So many shared vacation memories and family milestones-
Lew, you will always remain a treasure in our family’s hearts!

Oh how we giggled & laughed together with tears in our eyes...

Lew Levison was a great uncle to have, growing up in the 60's and 70's. He was fun to be around, and shared many of his ideas and adventures with us. I will miss him very much.
Just two years ago, he helped me purchase my first classic aircraft, a 1943 Taylorcraft L-2. I named the plane after my father, his older brother, Norman.
It was Uncle Lewie that taught me how to fly as a child, and I will always have memories of him and I in his J-3 Cub.

Dear Bernice and family,
Alice and I have many fond memories with Lew. Once a month breakfasts, overnight stays, dinners, and my flight with Lew viewing things from up high. We’re so sorry for your loss and we will cherish those times as we remember Lew.

Lew was such a lovely person! He will be missed greatly! He took David Shebses for a ride in his airplane which was a unique and exciting experience! Our hearts go out to Bernice and family at this difficult time. Love, Belle and David
