

Born in Bronx, New York, to Sara and Solomon Bernstein, he lived there until moving to Sayreville, NJ 20 years ago.
He was a graduate of NJIT with a Master’s of Science in Civil Engineering.
He served in the Army during the Vietnam War.
He was a Civil Engineer/Consultant with the NY-NJ Port Authority retiring in 2007.
Currently, he was the Executive Director of the Department of NY Jewish War Veterans.
He was a Past National Commander of the JWV.
He is survived by his beloved wife: Elaine (nee Messer), his devoted children: Alissa (Jeff) Swedelson of Mahwah, NJ, Hope (Craig) Rosenfeld of Marmora, NJ, Megan and Michael Bernstein of Sayreville, NJ. His dear siblings: Rita Greenblatt of New City, NY, Eileen Blitz of Pompano Beach, FL and Barry (Rhoda) Bernstein of Boca Raton, FL. He is also survived by his adored grandchildren: Britney and Emily Swedelson.
Services will be at “BLOOMFIELD-COOPER JEWISH CHAPELS” 44 Wilson Avenue (Route #527 North) Manalapan, NJ on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in the Forest Green Cemetery, Morganville, NJ. The Shiva Period will be observed at the Family Residence 9 Dogwood Court, Sayreville, NJ through Sunday evening.
