Born on April 9, 1928, in Brooklyn, New York, Shirley spent her early years growing up in Brooklyn and later attended Brooklyn College. Over the years, she lived in Queens and Jericho, Long Island, before settling in Monroe, New Jersey in 1989, where she enjoyed many years surrounded by family and friends.
On June 3, 1950, Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Emanuel Levinson. They shared a loving marriage for 50 years until Emanuel’s passing in January 2001. In her later years, Shirley often spoke proudly of Emanuel’s accomplishments as an engineer and fondly recalled the many travels they enjoyed together throughout their marriage.
Shirley had a deep appreciation for the arts and enjoyed painting, poetry, travel, playing cards, and board games. She also remained engaged with the world around her through her interest in current events. Above all, Shirley cherished time spent with her loved ones, especially celebrating Jewish holidays and gathering together for family milestones.
She was a devoted mother to Linda (Emanuel) and Lawrence; a loving grandmother to Jeremy (Jessica), David (Crystal), and Jonathan (Ann); and a proud great-grandmother to Vincent, Ashlyn, Eliana, Caleb, and Joshua.
Shirley was predeceased by her beloved husband Emanuel Levinson; her son Lawrence Levinson; her parents Harry Weinstein and Besse Kleinman; and her sister Belle Lieberman.
She will be remembered for her warmth, wisdom, and the love she shared with family and friends throughout her long and meaningful life.
